Chris’ Most Anticipated Films of 2010

The Movie Overdose’s newest, and essentially lone writer Chris Inman outlines his most anticipated movies of the coming year. Listen to Sam, Tom and John’s choices on Episode Number 48.

The Rum Diary

Why the buzz? : Johnny Depp has been a little disappointing of late, starring in major films where he seems to play a caricature of himself, so a return to a more intimate character-driven role will hopefully see a return to form. His performance in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas shows that he is able to ply his trade in supposed ‘unfilmable’ Hunter S Thompson adaptations. Giovanni Ribisi and Aaron Eckhart also star in this story of a freelance journalist writing for a paper in the Caribbean who develops a fixation for rum and a businessman’s fiancée.

Expendables Photos

the_expendables_27

ComingSoon.net has come into a host of photos from the set of The Expendables, the insane-sounding action movie coming from Sylvester Stallone and starring luminaries including Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke. The photos are primarily of Stallone running about and jumping off stuff but it’s just darn good to see him about and obviously enthused about the project. Check out more photos at here.

In addition to that, you can now follow live updates of the happenings on set here.

Round Up

2008-11-22-twilight1

Twilight racked up first-day sales of 3 million for its DVD release.

Warner Brothers is to open its archive for sale, offering custom made DVDs for $20 a pop.

A biopic of Steve McQueen is in the works. As is one on Pancho Villa. Oh, and one about Judy Garland, starring Anne Hathaway.

Kurt Russell has turned down an opportunity to star alongside former cohort Sly Stallone in The Expendables.

Amanda Seyfried has dropped out of Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. Apparently its due to a shooting conflict with HBO drama Big Love.

50 Cent Out, Terry Crews In

So many folks were somewhat perturbed last week after Sylvester Stallone told the world he had replaced Forest Whitaker in his new Expendables bash-fest with Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson. Subsequently, he’s attempted to rectify this with the casting of Terry Crews in 50 Cent’s part. Crews is a small-parts guy, probably best known for his work as Chris Rock’s father’s on-screen surrogate in Everybody Hates Chris and as the president in Mike Judge’s underrated satire Idiocracy.

The Expendables would surely not be the knife-edge, could be terrible-could be great movie without such news so fair enough, keep on recasting, Sly.

Stallone Updates on Expendables

The Expendables, the imminent, sure-to-be-amazing beef-fest being helmed in all senses by Sylvester Stallone has had a number of casting rumours floating about, including bringing in the likes of Arnie, Dolph Lundgren and JCVD to add to the already gonzo cast.

Stallone has now written in to AICN to confirm the cast members, giving us some updates on the change from Forest Whitaker to Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent) and the replacement of Ben Kingsley with Eric Roberts. Both seem pretty poor on paper although Sly has gone to lengths to defend all choices in his letter. To give a quick rundown, the casting is like this:

Hale Caesar is Curtis Jackson
Toll Road (new character) is Randy Couture
Monroe is Eric Roberts
Tool (an ex-Expendable) is Mickey Rourke
Bao is Jet Li
Lee Christmas is Jason Statham
Lacy is Charisma Carpenter
Sandra is Giselle Itie (famous Brazilian actress)
And
Barney ‘the schizo’ Ross is Yours Truly.

Whether it turns out good or not, just considering the possibilities of this cast, including Jason Statham playing Lee Christmas and Mickey Rourke as Tool, is good enough for me.
