Consolidated Pictures Group has signed up to distribute I Love You Philip Morris to the US audience, a couple of months after some concerns were raised as to whether the film had not managed to pick up a distribution deal yet owing to its gay content.
The film follows a conman, played by Jim Carrey, who falls in love with its prison cellmate, played by Ewan MacGregor. The plan it to release the film on Valentine’s Day 2010, a long time for a film which was seen by many at Sundance.
It will also be making its bow in Europe at the Cannes Film Festival during the Directors’ Fortnight.
So it seems it was just a delay rather than any institutional homophobia that delayed the film. Or, of course, no one else liked it.
